Chiropractic
A chiropractor is a licensed health care professional focused on the diagnosis and treatment of neuro-muscular disorders, with an emphasis on treatment through manual adjustment and/or manipulation of the spine and/or extremities. The goal chiropractic care is to reduce pain and improve the functionality of patients, as well as to educate them on how they can improve their own health via exercise, ergonomics and other therapies. Often a chiropractic adjustment is performed, which is a highly skilled and precise movement applied by hand or an adjusting instrument to a joint of the body. An adjustment loosens the joint to restore proper movement and thereby optimize function.
Chiropractic adjustment techniques have been researched extensively. Complications are rare and side-effects, such as temporary soreness, are usually minor. Your chiropractor is well-trained to determine if your problem will respond to chiropractic care or if you require referral to another health care provider.
